may we welcome our Father's discipline as we do our daily bread
And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins...
–Luke 11:2-4, KJVAnd have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?
My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.
7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
–Hebrews 12:5-11
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
–Revelation 3:19Loving Father,
It is your kindness that leads us to repentance. How can we repent of our sins if we do not see our sins? O, how we need Your loving Fatherly discipline and chastening each day, as much as, or if not more than our daily bread. Without regular confession and cleansing our fellowship with You is broken. We may have physical life but our life with You is retarded. How can we confess our sins and receive your cleansing and forgiveness unless we know our sins? Give us grace to welcome Your discipline as we do our daily bread.
O, may we not despise Your chastening.
O, may we not be discouraged when You rebuke us.May we see Your chastening and rebukes as Your gifts of love to us. You only chasten and rebuke those whom You love. You only chasten and rebuke Your children. Your Fatherly discipline reminds us of Your love for us. For what son or daughter is there whom a father does not discipline? As you chasten and rebuke us, You are dealing with us as Your sons. Your discipline is a reminder we are Your legitimate children, having been led by Your Spirit into Your family as we received the Lord Jesus Christ and believed on His Name.
O, may we not despise Your chastening.
O, may we not be discouraged when You rebuke us.We need not fear You or Your chastening or Your rebukes because Your perfect love casts out fear. We know we stand before You because of Christ's righteousness alone. Not only can we have boldness in the day of judgment, but we can have confidence today even as You chasten and rebuke us because Jesus Christ is our Surety. He is holding in the veil for us. Even now He is interceding for us at Your right hand. Even now as we confess our sins Your are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness for Jesus' sake.
O, may we not despise Your chastening.
O, may we not be discouraged when You rebuke us.Our Father, We know that You are working all things for our good because we are the called according to Your purpose and we love You. We can only love You because You first loved us and sent Your Son to atone for our sin. We know Your chastening is for our good. We know Your rebukes are for our good. O, holy Father, may we welcome Your chastening and rebukes for we know they are for our good, that we might partake of Your holiness.
O, may we not despise Your chastening.
O, may we not be discouraged when You rebuke us.Our Father, We know that You want to give Your children good gifts, so we know that when You must chasten us and when You must rebuke us, those are Your good gifts to us, they are for our profit and they are for Your glory. O, yes, these things are not always pleasant at the time but are painful and grievous, but we have full confidence that they are part of Your sanctifying work in us to yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness as we have been trained by them.
O, may we not despise Your chastening.
O, may we not be discouraged when You rebuke us.Our Father, Give us grace to welcome Your discipline.You only chasten and rebuke us so we might be conformed to the image of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit, give us ears to hear what You have to say to us. Give us a desire to be holy as our Father in heaven is holy. Give us hearts to embrace our Father's chastening and rebukes. Loving Father, as You chasten and rebuke us, may we be zealous and repent of our sin. Jesus Christ gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works (Titus 2:14). May Your discipline work in us so we might be a people pure and holy and zealous for good works to Your glory.
O, may we not despise Your chastening.
O, may we not be discouraged when You rebuke us.Ask the Father to help You accept and embrace His loving discipline as He sends it to you.
May we welcome His discipline as we do our daily bread.O, may we not despise His chastening.
O, may we not be discouraged when He rebukes us.

amen to that. that we would not despise His chastening, for He does it out of love and for our own good and blessing. i pray that whatever God needs to reveal or show us that needs changing, that we'd be receptive to it and be refined, grow, learn from our mistakes and learn how to correct what needs correcting with humble, contrite hearts and with repentance grow closer to Jesus than ever before. In His precious name, amen.
Holy Father, I thank You for Your loving discipline.
Once again You caught me this morning in my desire to be about my own business rather than Your business. I had my plan, my agenda, my idea for what I should be doing for You this day, but I had presumed and had not even asked You. Thank You for sending, yes, I say sending, me a most wretched headache which is still devastating my body physically, but I thank You that through it You brought spiritual healing to my soul and reminded me I must never presume but must always get down on my knees to seek Your face and always ask what is Your business for me.
Thank You for Your Fatherly discipline that continues to draw us back to You.
Keep me ever mindful I am Your servant, whom You send not to do my own will but Your will.
May Your will be done in my life and through my life.
I am truly Your child only by Your grace alone. Lord, You know all things. You know that I love You.

May we follow the example of King David, who, after taking an ill-advised census, was willing to accept a punishment (having his army shrunk) for that offense.
@WLCALUM - Amen.
Our Father, David is such a wonderful example to us, a man who sinned, but yet He was a man after Your own heart. He knew that:
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Help us to offer those types of sacrifices to you!
Amen.
Father, thank You for disciplining me today. Your kind yet firm Fatherly hand opened my eyes to show me once more how I want to rely on people rather than relying solely on You. You have always been trustworthy and faithful and good to me, yet I keep playing the harlot. Forgive me that I keep making people idols and expect them to fulfill my needs rather than trusting in Your perfect and sure provision. You love me. You sent Your Son to die for me while I was yet a sinner. Holy Spirit, write deep on my heart how great Your love is for me. If You gave Your Son for me, surely You will give me all things I need. You have loved me with an everlasting love. Your Word and Your promises to me are true. You cannot lie. You are for me. You are the Friend who sticks closer than a brother. You are my Helper. You are the great I AM. Jesus, You depended wholly on Your Father while You walked this earth; impart to me Your Spirit so I might be able to live as You did.
Help me to hallow Your Name by trusting you with all my needs day by day as a little child.
(Variation on Psalm 131)
O Lord, may my heart be not lifted up;
my eyes not raised too high;
May I not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
2 Help me calm and quiet my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child may my soul be within me.
3 O Karen, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore.
