After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
the whole earth is full of his glory!
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts! 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for. 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I! Send me.
Then the Lord called Samuel, and he said, Here I am! 5 and ran to Eli and said, Here I am, for you called me. But he said, I did not call; lie down again. So he went and lay down. 6 And the Lord called again, Samuel! and Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, Here I am, for you called me. But he said, I did not call, my son; lie down again. 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. 8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, Here I am, for you called me. Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the young man. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, Speak, Lord, for your servant hears. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for your servant hears.
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
...you have given me an open ear.
But if the slave plainly says, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free, 6 then his master shall bring him to God, and he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever.
When You saved us, Your Spirit circumcised our hearts
When You saved us, Your Spirit opened our ears.
When You saved us, Your spirit sanctified our ears.
When You saved us, You delivered us from slavery so sin
When You saved us, You delivered us to be Your slaves forever.
We pray "Thy will be done," but how can we know Your will if we don't hear it?
Holy Spirit, come again and circumcise our hearts
Holy Spirit, come again and open our ears.
Holy Spirit, come again and sanctify our ears.
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers...My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
We were going astray each to our own way.
But the LORD laid our sin upon You.
You became the Lamb who took away our sin.
So we might turn and walk in Your way.
We are Your sheep.
We are the people of Your pasture.
You have sanctified our ears to hear Your voice.
How can we hear Your voice unless we sit and listen?
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me. 41 But the Lord answered her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.
You have given us all we need to hear Your voice
Yet we busy ourselves like Martha
We need the spirit of Mary
Help us to choose the one thing that is necessary
Holy Spirit come again and circumcise our hearts
Holy Spirit come again and open our ears.
Holy Spirit come again and sanctify our ears.
We cannot know Your truth
Unless we abide in You and in Your word
Help us to sit at Your feet
Help us to abide in You and in Your word
Only then can we hear Your will
Only then can we know Your will
Only then can we do Your will
Only then will we not grieve Your Holy Spirit
Only then can we can hallow Your Name
Only then can we glorify our Father who is in heaven.
Only then can we pray:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Holy Spirit, circumcise our hearts anew
Holy Spirit, open our ears once more
Holy Spirit, sanctify our ears to hear.
May we no longer be slaves to sin but slaves of God.
All to the glory of God.
for you are our God!
Let your good Spirit lead us
on level ground!
(Psalm 143:10, adapted)
Take time now to come into the presence of the Good Shepherd. May His Spirit sanctify our ears and open our ears to hear what the Spirit has to say to each one of us this day and every day.
