unity

  • How good and pleasant it is that He is setting watchmen on our walls

Over the past several months, because God had been giving me a burden to pray for revival I started tent of meeting, this blog dedicated to prayer for revival in Christ's Church.

    This is my mission statement:

I am burdened to pray to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for Christ's church and for revival. The phrase tent of meeting comes from Exodus 33:7: Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp. This site is devoted to God first and foremost. In all that is done here, my prayer is that God is glorified and His Name magnified and Christ and Him crucified is lifted up so He might be preeminent and God might receive all the praise, honor and glory due His Holy Name. All who have come to a saving knowledge of our Father by grace through faith in the all-sufficient sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ are welcome to enter this tent of meeting to seek the Lord.

You can find more information about tent of meeting here.

Since beginning to pray here, we've been praying through the Lord's Prayer. We are at the section, "Forgive us our sins," and have been focusing on and praying over Jesus' words to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3.

Earlier this week I asked some of the friends and subscribers of tent of meeting to pray about writing a prayer related to Revelation 2-3 that I might post here. I have been excited to see how God is giving His people a heart to pray for revival. I consider it a privilege to be able to include the prayers of many of my brothers and sisters here at tent of meeting. As my brothers and sisters in the Lord submit their prayers I plan to post them here. May the Lord continue to help us to persevere in prayer for we know that the effectual fervent prayers of righteous men and women and boys and girls do avail much! May this blog bring glory to Him for He alone is worthy! Though we come from many different denominations and backgrounds, I believe as I post the prayers of many here we will be reminded the Body of Christ is bigger than our congregations and transcends our denominations – that tent of meeting would serve as a visible demonstration of the unity we have in Christ. In Ephesians 4, the apostle Paul reminds us:

There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.

and in Psalm 133 we read:

Behold, how good and pleasant it is
    when brothers dwell in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
    running down on the beard,
    on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
    life forevermore.

As we see the many prayers here may we continue to be encouraged that this is God's work, that He is raising up people to pray from all corners of the Church. I know we do not agree on all things, but we do agree on the essentials of our faith and we do agree that Jesus Christ must be exalted and given the preeminence once more in His Church. For too long He has not been given His rightful place. We agree that the Church is in a sad and sorry state and apart from His Holy Spirit falling fresh on us, apart from reviving breath and apart from His purifying and igniting fire, we can do nothing.

    Isaiah wrote:

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help
    and rely on horses,
who trust in chariots because they are many
and in horsemen because they are very strong,
but do not look to the Holy One of Israel
    or consult the Lord!

    (Isaiah 31:1)

God has been raising up some dedicated intercessors who so love Him and love His Bride and are grieved over the current state of the Church:

    On your walls, O Jerusalem,
    I have set watchmen;
all the day and all the night
    they shall never be silent.
You who put the Lord in remembrance,
    take no rest,
    and give him no rest
    until he establishes Jerusalem
and makes it a praise in the earth.
    (Isaiah 62:6-7)

Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp. Exodus 33:7.

O, Lord God, how good and pleasant it is for us to dwell in unity. How good and pleasant it is when we come together to seek You in prayer. How good and pleasant it is that You are setting watchmen on our walls from all across Your Body. Even as You raised up and led Moses and many of the children of Israel to seek You in the tent of meeting outside the camp, You are raising up Your people to seek Your face and to pray to You now. You are filling us with a zeal for Your house. We want Your house to be a house of prayer, not a house of idolatry. We want Your Church to be a praise in the earth. We have seen that the golden calves we have fashioned and have bowed down to are of no help. Forgive us for bowing down to our golden calves of human ingenuity. Forgive us for not giving Jesus Christ the preeminent place. He alone is worthy of all praise, honor and glory. We confess we have grieved and quenched the Spirit of God and have limited You, O holy One of Israel. Forgive us, O Lord. We confess we tried to do Your work apart from Your power. We have cut ourselves off from the true Vine. Forgive us, O Lord. May You continue to turn us from seeking help in our golden calves of human ingenuity and seek You alone, for there is no true help and there is no real hope for us apart from You.
May we never be silent but continue in prayer at Your throne. May we give You no rest until You establish Your Church and You make us a praise in the earth. The effectual fervent prayers of righteous men and women and boys and girls avail much. Keep us boiling in the Spirit and fervent in prayer. As we unite in prayer before Your throne may You rain down blessing on Your Church and renew us with Your life so blessing and life might flow like precious oil into the world. Lord of the harvest, continue to raise up laborers for the harvest, both intercessors who pray for the harvest behind the scenes and laborers who go out to reap the harvest. And we will rejoice and shout together with singing as You give the increase for we know You are ready to do great things! Amen.

  • forgive us for dividing Your Son, our Lord

    Our Father,

Your Son, our Savior, the head of the body, the Church, our Lord, taught us to pray with these words:

    Pray then like this:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

    –Matthew 6:9-12

And the apostle Paul exhorted us with these words:

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

    –Ephesians 4:1-5

    Our Father,

    There is one body
    There is one Spirit.
    There is one hope.
    There is one Lord.
    There is one faith.
    There is one baptism.
There is one God and Father of us all,

That is why Your Son told us to pray "our Father."

Yet how can we truly pray "our Father," when we remain divided?

    Is Christ divided?
    No!

Was any man crucified for us, save the Son of Man?
    No!

    Is Your body divided?
No. You have said, "There is one body."

    Is Your Spirit divided?
No. You have said, "There is one Spirit."

    Is Your hope divided?
No. You have said, "There is one hope."

    Is our Lord divided?
No. You have said, "There is one Lord."

    Is Your faith divided?
No. You have said, "There is one faith."

    Is Your baptism divided?
No. You have said, "There is one baptism."

    Our Father,

Our Father, forgive us, for Jesus' sake, for dividing Your Son, our Lord.

    We confess we have sinned
We confess we have divided Your Son, our Lord.
We confess we have not walked in a manner unworthy of the calling to which we have been called.
We confess we have not walked with all humility and gentleness,
We confess we have not walked with patience,
We confess we have not borne with one another in love,
We confess we have not been eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
We confess we follow the old self, rather than putting it off.
We confess we have not put on the new self.

Our Father, forgive us, for Jesus' sake, for dividing Your Son, our Lord.

His flesh was torn apart so we might not be torn apart.
His flesh was torn apart so we might be reconciled to You.
His flesh was torn apart so we might be reconciled to one another.
His flesh was torn apart so we might be placed together into one body.

Our Father, forgive us, for Jesus' sake, for dividing Your Son, our Lord.

We confess this is not the way we learned Christ!
This is not the Spirit of Christ!
O, our Father, may we appropriate the power of Your Spirit and walk as You have called us.
May we clothe ourselves with Christ.
May we put off the old self and put on the new self.

    Holy Spirit sanctify us,

Help us to walk like Jesus,
Help each of us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called,
Help us to walk with all humility and gentleness,
Help us to walk with patience,
Help us to bear with one another in love,
Help us to be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Help us to put off the old self and put on the new self.

Send us men and women who will equip us and for the work of the ministry and building up of the body of Christ.
Help us to speak the truth in love to one another so we might grow up into Christ.
It is from Christ the whole body is joined and held together by every joint and it is by Him we are equipped.
Help each part of Your body to work properly.
Help each one of us to actively walk in the works and calling you have ordained for us,
for is it only then each part works properly
and it is only then Your body will grow so that it builds itself up in love,
and it is only then Your Name is hallowed as it ought to be.

    Amen.

Come now to our Father and confess how you have not walked in a manner worthy of His calling regarding your relationships with your brothers and sisters in His Body.

Our Father, forgive us, for Jesus' sake, for dividing Your Son, our Lord.
Father, Son and Spirit, keep us in Your Name and make us one as You are one.
    Amen.

  • OUR Father

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. Ephesians 2:14.

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba! Father! The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ...Romans 8:14-17.

Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. John 17:11b.

    Our Father,
    Abba! Father!

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Praise Your Holy Name for sending Jesus Christ to reconcile us to you by His blood.
Praise Your Holy Name for sending Jesus Christ to reconcile us to one another.
Praise Your Holy Name for sending Your Spirit into each of us.
Praise Your Holy Name for giving us the right to become Your children by grace through faith.
Praise Your Holy Name for bringing us near by the blood of Christ!

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Praise You that we can now call Your our Father!

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Let us never take our sonship for granted.
Let us never throw away our birthright,
Let us value the privilege we have to pray to You.

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Let us never take our unity for granted,
Let us never throw away our birthright,
Let us never discard the unity bought for us by the blood of Christ,
Let us value the unity we have with You and with one another.

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
The prayer Jesus taught us began with the phrase our Father.
Forgive us for so often we make divisions in Your Body,
We attempt to break down the oneness Christ purchased for us by His blood.

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Through His blood we are Your children.
Through His blood we are Your heirs.
Through His blood we are fellow heirs with Christ.
Through His blood we are fellow heirs with our brothers and sisters.
Through His blood You have made us one with You and one with each other.
Through His blood, keep us in Your name, that we may be one, as You and Your son are one.

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Protect us as we endeavor to keep the unity of Your Spirit in the bond of peace.

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Because of the unity we have in and through Christ
we can come together in one accord
we can pray in one accord

We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
May we keep that unity, that oneness, by Your Spirit.
May we come together to seek Your face.
We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!

Help us to tarry in prayer in one accord,
Help us to continue in one accord in prayer and supplication,
Help you to wait on You to endue us with power from on high.

We know we can do nothing apart from Your Spirit.
Would You come in Your fullness to each of us
that we might be Your witnesses
that Your Kingdom might come in all its fullness
that Your will might be done
here on earth as it is in heaven.

Our Father, we praise You because
We were once far off but now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ!
Our Father, we praise You because we can all now pray to You in one accord,
    "OUR FATHER..."

As our Father leads you, please add your prayers below.

(Please note, if you've not already done so please read About this blog - why "tent of meeting"? -- I've updated this a bit since yesterday. Thank you.)

"he called it the tent of meeting..."

I am burdened to pray to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for the reformation and reviving of Christ's church.

This blog is a place for all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to come and seek God's face for revival. My intention is for this tent of meeting to be a holy place where we can enter into PRAYER together to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit leads you, please enter into prayer either here (think of "comments" as prayers) or on your own.

Habakkuk 3:2 O LORD, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O LORD, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.
